Hello, I make gigs with Marshall 1959 HW through Power Station 100. Marshall amp is on 7, everything can’t sound better… killing tone of course… just a little detail that count for me: when I not play and everybody not plays, my amp Marshall make “isss” noise because is cracked up of course… this “isss” not comes out from pedals or something else, I can unplug cable from amp and “isss” is still there because of pre amp tubes… it is normal… can I use a noise gate between amp and cab using power station 100? If yes where can I put it? Isss is audible only when I not play… is just a way to be comfortable in clubs when we speak and not play… I can with off stand by amp of course… but I would like to know if can be a more easy way like noise gate. Thank you
I think putting a noise gate in the PS effects loop might work for you.
If the noise gate can do the 4 cable method that is what I would try.
Thanks Stephen… I was thinking about 4 cables noise gate… I watched some YouTube videos and I am going to consider ISP Decimator X G String
All noise gates can effect the feel and tone. They all color the sound in some way.
I would try a few of the different methods and see what works best for you. Each has advantages and disadvantages.
I use a Zuul+ before the amp 4 cable method with overdrive, boost, distortion, fuzz in the gate loop.
That Marshall is awesome. Im sure the roar is inspirational.
I like the tc sentry as fair as noise gates go. It has a pretty natural engage/disengage if you set it up right. stephen is right, any noise gate is going to affect feel.
I would be aware of the possibility of a ground loop if using the four cable method with a noise gate in the loop of the power station. this is a solvable condition if you use an isolation transformer to break the ground loop (2nd video: What is mystery squeal?)
one other option is if you’re only concerned about reducing the hiss in between songs and don’t need an automatic noise gate, you could use something like a passive volume pedal in the effects loop and engage that manually when you’re not playing.
I was thinking a volume pedal or on/off switch in the PS effects loop might be better for this situation. It would color the sound less. Less likely to have ground loops. Would be useful as a master volume for the entire rig.
Its a other option anyway.
