Ghost Notes ps-2a

Hi. My ps-2a is not working properly. Generating ghost notes.

I’m going out on tour on tuesday, and it’s an essential part of my rig. So I’m kinda panicking.

I have changed tubes. I’ve also tried just going straight into the line in from guitar. Problem still there.

If it’s in bypass mode the problem is not there.

Please help me!

Here’s a mp3 of the problem. Don’t mind the 6k noise, that’s just my house.

Hi @matsraknerud and welcome!

Are you playing with a slide? If you just fret a single note with all other strings muted, do you still hear this?

There are a few things this could be:

  • pickup height is too close to strings?
  • Interaction between the power station and the amp or speaker; basically anything with a magnetic field could be coupling with each other. Try to maximise the distance between PS-2, the amp, and the speaker.

On the PS-2 side of things:

  • Try going to Flat on both toggles
  • Try reducing the presence and depth controls
  • Power supply capacitors (or others) are leaky

The bad news: it could mean you need a service… very quickly… talk to @Gil he can get you sorted out. Follow these instructions: How can I send my product to Fryette for a repair (RMA Request)?

Same without slide. And other guitars.
No issue if i bypass the ps-2a.

Even with guitar straight into line in on the ps-2a the problem remains.

Both toggles on flat.
Will try reducing depth. Presence is on 0.

OK, seems more like a service is needed to me.

Is this the first time you’ve used a PS-2A?

I ask because it will help determine if you are simply hitting close to headroom or there is something deeper at work.

Dave

Used it a ton. Never had this issue before. And it’s the same on low and high volume.

I have also tried it on several locations. So it’s not the wall power either.

OK good. Do you notice an increase in background hum in Operate mode when not playing anything? I didn’t hear anything in the vid, but that’s not always definitive.

Dave

No extra backround noise.
