FX send return issue

Hi everyone,

Just yesterday I purchased the PS2A power station and am having trouble using it.

If I use only my guitar, amp, and power station, everything works fine.

If I add my Mastermind pedalboard to the system in the FX send and return of the power station (4-cable method, as shown in the attached figure), with the Fender amplifier’s volume already set to 3-4, it generates a very loud whistling noise that makes everything unusable. Even turning the tone control or the guitar’s pickup switch can trigger the whistling. Could it be a ground loop?

The issue can be seen in this video https://youtu.be/svH9xP-7I6I

I tried again, using the pedalboard before plugging it into the amp (without using the FX send and return of the power station). The problem doesn’t arise in this case, but I bought the power station to use it as a power attenuator, but above all to have an effects loop that my amp doesn’t have, so I can use it for modulation, reverb, and delay effects.

How can I fix this?

Thanks
Daniele

Hi Daniele,

You get an award for the most well posed question on the site.

Yes, I think so. Removing the pedal board is the clue. It is probably a variation on this:

How can I fix this?

You will mostly likely need a signal isolator (transformer) to break the loop.

Thanks for the award!

Can you suggest any isolators you know might work?
