Fryette vs. old Mesa poweramps?

Please forgive my ignorance as I only have very limited experience with poweramps. I have an old Mesa 395 poweramp and don‘t even use its many switching options. How would a Fryette be „better“ at very low volumes? Is it about tone, stereo separation, clarity? To be honest, I learned about those terms in one of the Malcontents episodes, but have a hard time understanding how I would perceive them.

Hey Shred,

Welcome to the forum.

Honestly, the biggest issue is whether or not you need a 395 for bedroom volume playing. It’s just such a power hog. Even the LXII would be overkill for that application, but the LXII has much better stereo separation, is more transparent sounding and has very low noise.

The 395 has a lot of low end kill power. Too much in my opinion, but some people seem to like that low end excess.

Hope that helps.

Dave
