Fryette PS-2A fan noise

Hi all,
First time poster and Fryette owner here so i apologise if this is a silly question. How much noise is too much from the PS2A? I purchased a second hand unit; when switched on the fan noise is really quite noticeable to the point its distracting while playing. I am a little concerned the unit is faulty or has been damaged in shipping? Thanks

Hi Rick,

Welcome to the forum!

Do me a favor and take a clear video (with sound of course) of the unit. We’d love to help you figure this out.

Thank You,

Terry

Hi Terry
Thankyou so much for your quick reply. I have uploaded two short videos to Youtube. In both videos, the only device on in the room is the power station.

Thanks!!

Bumping this reply, thanks in advance guys

Bumping this for a reply, thanks in advance guys

Hi Rickjames,

Just getting back into the office. Do me a favor and if you’re comfortable, remove the top cover and take a picture 12” from the chassis showing the internals. Check the fan area as well and make sure there’s nothing impinging on it (wires, dust, etc…).

Also, what’s your serial number for the unit.

Thank You,

Terry

Hi Terry,
No worries at all please see attached photo as requested. It seems I can only upload one at a time. Serial PSL215968

Thanks

Hi Rick,

Ok, so it may be the angle of the photo but do me a favor and see if when you manually move the fan, it rubs up against its casing. It looks as though the fan could be impinging on itself. This could have happened due to shipping the unit, or if the last owner messed with it. Also, are all the fan screws holding onto the fan frame from the heatsink? Let’s check everything with that.

Thanks,

Terry

Hi Terry,
I checked all of the above and it seems ok - i dont think the fan is touching the sides and i can see all the screws are attached to the heat sink. I have recorded another video as below. Thanks

Bump. Your help is much appreciated

Hi Rick,

Are you by any chance playing at extremely low volumes? It is after all a product commonly used as an “attenuator”. I took a look at the last video, and that sounds normal for the Power Station. Listening to the other videos, I noticed some birds in the background that seemed much louder than the fan but chocked it up to compression.

Everything sounds right where it should be in the last video. I don’t hear anything faulty. Thank you for shooting a very good video.

Thank you,

Terry

Hi Terry,
Thanks again for your ongoing help. I do play quite low, roughly 85-90DB, but good to hear it sounds normal to you. Ill leave it at that, thanks once again your customer service has been excellent.
