I just received my Fryette PS‑2A Power Station! I play at low bedroom volumes and the attenuation is amazing. I’ve owned, and still own, a few widely regarded attenuators, the PS-2A is top-notch in retaining the tone of my amp. The Power Station does produce noticeable noise (I play at really low volumes, so that makes it more apparent): Is a degree of noise, perhaps fan noise, to be expected? Thank you!
Hello, Yes, there is a very low level of noise generated by the cooling fan when it runs. This is normal. We sourced the best fans possible to minimize this issue but they are audible in a quiet environment. Cheers! Gil
Thanks Gil. I’m trying to isolate the PS-2A in a cabinet to reduce the hum. The noise floor is louder than any amp I own. I hope nothing is wrong with the unit. There’s also a tick or ping-like noise that occurs when I first turn on the PS-2A, and then it goes away after 5-10 minutes. It happens again when I turn it off. Would it help if I shared a video? Thanks!
Yes, please post a video so we can assist with the diagnosis. Thanks! Gil
Great! Here is a link to two videos. Turn the volume up to hear these well. In one video, I just turned the SP-2A on, and you’ll hear a “ping” like sound before I turn it off (this video also shows the ground floor noise of the unit). In the other video, the unit was just turned off, and you’ll hear a couple of “tick” like sounds. The “ping” or “tick” sounds only appear when the SP-2A is first turned on, or turned off, so perhaps this is normal as the unit warms up or cools down. Thanks for the help!!!
