I have the following setup
4 amps into a KHE switcher
Fryette out of the KHE dedicated attenuator loop (with the loop switched on)
I also am using the FX loop on the Fryette
Everything is set to 16Ohms to match them all to the cab
What happens is when im playing with the attenuator on all is fine for 15-20-30 mins then there is a 2-3 second squeal and silence.
I cant work out why, I know this might be an odd path to go down but could it be a grounding issue with using the FX loop? I say this because the pedals in front and the pedals in the loop are on the same power supply and this my only logical thought at the moment other than there being some big issue with the PS100
It could well be something odd like that. After the squeal what happens? Does the amp recover? I could not follow the symptoms exactly.
The team has some experience with similar rigs, we had a quick chat so I’m writing on their behalf.
Try the ground switch options first.
We think you should check really basic stuff like cables and sockets — so you have good connections. This might be easier to do if you simplify the rig to amp and cab and add one thing at a time.
Make sure everything is powered from one adapter going to one wall socket.
I have done quite a bit of investigation before coming on here but your suggestions follow the path I had followed
The squeal comes from Fryette not the amp, after the squeal and all sound stops if I put the PS100 into standby mode I get audio back. The amp itself remains functional
I did simplify the whole rig and im 80% sure it comes back when I start using the loop on the PS100.
Im going to try getting a second power supply for the pedals through the PS100 and try that
OK, thanks for explaining. I’m glad you already worked on the simple stuff.
I think something is making the power section oscillate and emit ultrasonic frequencies. This is why it appears silent.
Can you try two things for me?
Try and replicate the squeal just with the PS-100
Connect your amp to the PS-100
Connect your PS-100 to the Speaker
Connect FX loop
i.e. no KHE switcher
Play for time; do you still get the same squeal?
Move the PS-100 away from your amp and the KDE switcher. Fields can couple between them and cause feedback. How close is the PS-100 to your amp and switcher?
So disconnected everything and just to be clear on this
Marshall JCM 800 - guitar in
Out to the PS100 - no loop connected
Moved the ps100 over a meter away from the amp (1m cable)
All cables are pro grade and correct
All settings were 16ohms (amp and ps100)
Out to cab (16Ohms cab)
All left to warm up as usual, played ps in standby no issues at all
Turned on the ps on and it played fine, functioned fine all good
After 12 mins (I timed it) there was a squeal the silence, this time though for the first time it’s dead, turned it to standby and works fine again but as soon as I power it back on it’s silent
The tubes light up, fan is spinning, all led functional but zero sound out of it
Just for recap I had this setup without the PS for months with no changes but adding the PS100 about a month ago, it’s only been used 7-8 times, worked ok for the first 4 ish times but had done the cutoff thing for the last few and now silence
We’re in regular communication with the staff at Peach. We also have a service outlet set up there and replacement tubes on the way to them with their next shipment which will be shipping in the next week or so.
If you can let us know of any recent convos with Peach, please let us know.
