Foot switch - What kind do I need

The GPDI/IR manual doesn’t specify what kind of 2-button foot switch and Fryette’s shop doesn’t have a dedicated foot switch. I’ve tried a 2-button latching foot switch w/ LEDs from Amazon and the LED’s light when a switch is clicked but the GPDI/IR doesn’t respond.

Should a generic 2-button latching foot switch w/ LEDs work or do I need something special and specific to the GPDI/IR?

HI Plop,

Welcome to the community!

The footswitch for the GPDI/IR is not available on the web store just yet. It should be ready to go very soon.

Thank You,

Terry

Your footswitch is not wired correctly for this application.

Based on your description, it may have current limiting resistors inside (one for each LED). That would explain why the LEDs light but you get no response.

Would a foot switch w/o current limiting resistors work, or putting the LED + resistor in parallel with the switch?

Yes. That will probably work.

Great info, as I was looking for one as well. Please drop a note here when it’s ready. I saw a dude online with one? https://youtu.be/ICgU3EdZ1sw?si=hj-G4fm3eLMtIsty

I have a foot pedal that works with the GPDI IR. It also works for the reverb / effects loop on the Memphis. It looks identical to my other two Fryette foot switches. Other than no LED. I am sure it is made at the same place.

Is the carry bag also coming soon?

Hi Scotty,

Welcome to the Forum!

Which carry bag? GP/DI-IR/Power Load or Power Station?

Thank You,

Terry

Hey Stephensawall,

Pretty sure I saw you on the Malcontents Speaker Talk Part 2 on Sunday. Thanks for being there if that was you! You are right, we have a lot of different foot switches and they are all wired here in house. All of the dual foot switch units are made from the same enclosure. It makes it much easier to manufacture in large quantities when it’s needed.

I hope to see you in the Malcontents chat again soon! Again, assuming that was you.

Thank You,

Terry

Thank you!

Yes, for the GP/DI-IR. I was looking through the site for the footswitch and bag too.

Hi Scotty,

Please use our web store, which is active right now. You should be able to purchase what you need in our accessories section.

It was me. I have seen all the Malcontents live except the one with Dave Friedman and Joe took a nap. I am stephen sawall everywhere on the internet but Facebook. I am Don Genaro there.

The pedal enclosure is identical to a few of my Fryette pedals. I got it last year when I bought a used Mesa Triple Rectifier 2 channel G. Strange how you find things sometimes.

Funny I was thinking early today it might be interesting to have threads here relative to the show topics or the question part of the shows. Several of the regulars there are regulars here.

By the way everyone here does a excellent job of dealing with everyone’s issues. I have worked extensively with the public and know it can be interesting.

That’s an interesting idea, a Malcontents category with discussion and follow-up? I dropped in once live because the show usually starts at 2pm in Europe. It’s always funny to wake up the day after and see what chaos has appeared on the forum as a result

Hi Stephen,

I’m stoked you’re using everything we have to offer. The Malcontents is definitely a great hang with a lot of incredible information… and it’s fun. The forum is a huge tube amplifier FAQ, which is perfect for anyone needed information, not just Fryette clients. I look forward to seeing you in the Malcontents chat in a couple of weeks!

The pedals are all wired in house. There is a couple different models, and a couple of different screenings on the enclosures of certain models. So they all should look pretty similar.

I think the Malcontents section would be amazing!

Thank You,

Terry

A bit of pre and post Malcontent conversation might be interesting. Wonder if it would take traction. More conversation about gear and gear use in general. Just a idea.
