Compressor pedal into Power Station fx-loop

I wonder what kind of result would I have by placing a compressor pedal like Cali76 into the fxloop of the Power Station. Would that give me a more compact (like a “finished studio sound”) high gain sound from my JCM 800 with an SD1 in front?

Hello, You should be able to get good results using moderate settings on the Cali76. You will be able to tame the transient peaks of the signal this way which will give you a more “polished” sound. But the compressor can boost noise in the signal so again, moderate settings will work best. A little compression goes a long way. Cheers! Gil

Hi, I did some experiments and I couldn’t be happier! I putted into the PS fxloop 3 pedals that substantially are acting as a Pultec Eq, LA2a compressor and a Roland Dimension D chorus.
As you can see from the picture bellow, first pedal is a Source Audio ZIO in Studio mode which mimics the Pultec EQ trick curve. Second in chain the Universal Audio LA2 compessor which is set very low (when playing guitar the led constantly blinks from green to yellow). Last in chain is a Boss Waza Dimension C that I mix to the dry tone (EQ+LA2) in order to barelly hear it on dirt sounds while notice it on clean sounds.
So, with the first two pedals I do a slightly tone shaping that doesn’t alter too much the core sound (JCM800 + SD1), while adding space and movement with the last pedal.
