Can you pull the outer two tubes to mimic a 50 watt amp?

I was hoping somebody familiar with the Lead 100 circuit could tell me if pulling the outer two tubes on a Lead 100 would give you something close to the Master Lead 50. I get that impedence could be altered and the transformers and caps would be bigger and maybe stiffer. But would it be similar to the ML50 or even itself just at 50 watts? And Yes, I already have a Power Station. Sometimes it’s in use elsewhete and honestly, as a studio owner I want versatility. Yeah, try different jumper configurations, try different speakers, so why not pull two tubes?

I actually bought the Master Lead 50 and wish I had bought the Lead 100, but I couldn’t find the answers…

Hi Christian,

So I don’t know how useful I am here, but looking into the output transformer would double the impedance, but as you said, that is probably not the only change! I would not expect it to be similar to the ML50 because of the reasons you mentioned; the power supply will now find it very easy to supply the current (little sag) to name one reason.

I agree. I have to say though… the ML50 is the opposite of saggy. It’s probably the stiffest amp I’ve played, so I’m not sure amp’s ability to supply power would be a big change. At some point, a stiff amp is a stiff amp.

Well yeah that’s a great point. Why not try it and see what happens?

I bought the ML50. I kinda wish I had bought the 100. I was hoping my fears would be alleviated, but nobody seems to know if the 100 is more versatile or just bigger headroom. I have a decent budget, but buying two of the same amp would be a tough sell.

Hi,

In EU/UK we have return window of 14 days typically, no questions asked. Not sure about the US.
