Brand new D120 Making Odd Rattling Noise

Hello all,

I just got a brand new Dii+ 120 and overall love it. That said, when I use my Waza Tube Amp Expander, the amp head itself outputs a ringing/rattling sound. This happens even if I turn the volume on the TAE down all the way with no volume coming out of the speakers. I noticed this happens when the Master Volume on the amp head is around 9 o clock onward and is worse with higher gain. If I wasn’t using the attenuator I likely wouldn’t notice due to the level of volume but I’m playing at bedroom volume so it’s very noticeable. Video attached. Is this an issue or expected for a high gain amp head?

Hi Nick,

Everything is fine, this is an output transformer vibrating a little bit as it handles the high power signals. Attenuators let you notice stuff that has always been there…

I appreciate it, that’s what I was thinking but nice to get an answer. Would a D60 operate the same way regardless of where the volume is pushed?

Yes, it’s universal. Every amp I have used with an attenuator, I’ve always heard this.

Listen here too…

Oh wow, yup that’s it alright. Before using this amp I’ve mostly played a Fender Twin so never got enough gain to experience this. Thanks again, I really love this amp.
