Aether power supply related distortion

Hi Fryette family,

My Aether is awesome when it is working properly. Some days, there’s a distortion that gradually gets introduced into the guitar signal that definitely sounds like a power issue.

When I reseat the XLR umbilical cable, it restores the amp to where it should be.

As of today, the problem has been pretty persistent. As referenced, when the amps cable is reseated, the problem goes away for a short while. I’ve tried cleaning the contacts with Deoxit and rubbing alcohol.

Any chance anyone can help me out with this?

Welcome to the forum!

I would suspect the umbilical first.

When you reseat it, is one end more responsive to the reseat than the other?

Dave

Hey David

I opened up the xlr cable and noticed this potentially cold joint on the Ground(?) of the receptacle

Could this be the culprit?

That’s less than pretty.

The black wire and the shield are connected to that tab. The photo is a little fuzzy there.

If you have a soldering tool you might try heating the tab a bit to see if it can be made to flow a little better.

If not, email your info and serial number to support@fryette.com and we’ll arrange a repair or replacement.
