12AX7 tube choice in Power Station PS-2

Hello Fryette Team,

I hope you’re well.

I’m writing with a quick question regarding the 12AX7 used in the Power Station PS-2. I understand that this valve is not acting as a traditional phase inverter, but rather as a gain/driver stage for the power section.

I was wondering whether it’s electrically and operationally safe to run a JJ ECC803S (long-plate 12AX7 type) in this position. I’m mainly asking with regard to stability, microphonics, and any operating conditions that might make a long-plate valve less suitable here.

The unit is functioning perfectly as is — this is purely a tube-rolling curiosity rather than troubleshooting.

Thanks very much for your time, and for such a well-designed piece of gear.

Best regards,
Mindpretzel

Hi @Mindpretzel and welcome to the forum,

I can’t seem to find it now, but I think Dave likes those long plate tubes, similar to Mullards. Absolutely fine to tube roll that.

This will be useful
