PS100 Not Attenuating or Channel Switching

I see. That makes way more sense to me now, thank you @dan

Yeah if the email just said like “Please Post this Question in the appropriate forum and we will respond there, but if you need an RMA request email us here” or whatever, it would have been much clearer. Versus just like “we invite you to check out the forums.” What if someone declines said invite? Haha.

Thank you for the help. I will fill out an RMA request.

@dan

I submitted my RMA Request and got this.

Please advise?

Hey,

I can confirm your email has arrived. Please ignore this warning. This has been caused by the way we integrate our support email software with the forum software. I’m going to talk to the forum software developers about this because there does not seem to be anything we can do to control this automated message.

Dan

I’m going to join this thread as I just picked up a brand new PS100 and I’m having this exact same issue. The unit turns on but I have the volume all the way down on the PS100 and whether the unit is set to operate mode or standby I’m getting the full volume from my amp into my cabinet. Turning the volume knob on either channel does absolutely nothing. I’ve verified that everything’s plugged in correctly but I’m very confused as to why this is happening.

Edit: Just tested to see if any other controls on the front panel work and nothing’s changed at all. The line in works just fine so it seems like the reactive load is functioning properly, however none of the controls on the front panel are working at all. I own a PLIR as well but I’d like to make use of my cabinets again so I really want to make this work.

Hey everyone! I am exited and pleased to announce that I solved the issue and successfully repaired my unit. As suspected, R406 and D406 failed. I replaced them and put it back together and back functioning as normal. Here’s a video demonstrating the issue, repair, and play test. Hope it helps anyone with the same “stuck in bypass mode/ not switching channels/ non functioning knobs” issue. Thanks @dan for the help!!

Great job @Hillel I watched to the end. This will really help technical users that have the confidence to poke around. Great to see!

I always worry about over confident and under experienced types poking around, I don’t think they realise it’s not safe with the cover off.

Dan

Hey @desertsandslv

Sorry I just noticed this. The way the forum works, it is not really obvious that a new person commented.

I know this was a week ago now. How are things with the unit?

Yeah I agree. I’ve given warnings about potentially lethal voltages that may be present in some of my other amp repair videos. I should have made a video of me going through the diagnostic process and I would have mentioned verifying the discharge of the filter caps… I get your concern though, the worst thing to hear or know would be someone injuring themselves by attempting to do something you gave advice or suggestions to for a DIYer. That being said, happy to share what I did, mostly as a reference for other techs out there. Thanks again!

Yes, this is great and certainly will give people confidence to poke around things they can do themselves. Great job.

Deepest apologies for the late response. I just saw the forum thread but the other day i took my PS100 to a buds house to check one theory of mine which is that it’s a cabling issue and sure enough, I plugged the unit into his old Fender Deville combo and everything worked exactly as it should, so part of me thinks that it’s a different issue altogether with the units relay circuit activating. I haven’t had a chance to plug it back in and test on my system again but I’ll update after I do.
