Hello,
Initially started by email thread, but considering it took 3 weeks to hear from anyone in Service, going to try my luck here as well …
Original Summary
- Signal Chain used for testing was guitar > Amp Head > Amp Head Speaker Out to Fryette PS100 Amp Input > Fryette PS 100 Speaker Out to cabinet.
- I followed the Fryette No-Sound diagnosis instructions, and found a blown internal fuse
- I replaced the fuse with the recommended fuse type, and got the signal chain back in for testing:
- With the Fryette in between my amp and head, all sound works fine when the Fryette is in the signal chain between head and cab, but power cord is not plugged into the PS100
- The moment I put the power cord into the PS100 (even without turning the unit on), I lose any audible signal at normal volume levels.
- Turning the unit on and leaving in standby remains the same (no audible signal)
- Turning the unit on operate remains the same (no audible signal)
- When I turned on the unit and set to operate, there was a loud ‘pop’ as well as bright flash from the left side of the PS100 unit. This resembles the thread here.
- In that thread, David from Team Fryette suggests this is likely due to a bad power tube.
- I ordered the recommended power tubes (as a matched set)
Updated Summary post Tube Swap:
- I replaced new tubes and fuse with new
- Fuse used: Bussmann GMA-2A 2 Amp Glass Fast Acting Cartridge Fuse, 250V UL Listed
- Tubes used: JJ 6550, Apex Matched Pair, purchased from the TubesAndMore Antique Electronic Supply link that David recommended in thread above
- Tested with same steps as above, and had the same results.
- With the Fryette in between my amp and head, all sound works fine when the Fryette is in the signal chain but not plugged into power (power cord is not plugged into the PS100).
- The moment I put the power cord into the PS100 even without turning the unit on, there is no audible signal at normal volume levels.
- Turning the unit on and leaving in standby remains the same (no audible signal)
- Turning the unit on operate remains the same (no audible signal)
- If I crank the volume to max, the audible hum floor in my speaker starts to increase, and there is a whistling noise
- I also checked the main fuse and it was still in tact. This has not been replaced.
Hoping for guidance on next steps here, I am at wits end. And hoping for a more prompt reply by forum than email.
Thanks in advance
