Typically I use the PS100 so that the red channel is my solo boost, utilizing the Fryette footswitch, and green channel is my base volume for everything else. At tonights gig I noticed that when I clicked over to channel 2 (red channel) the volume was quieter. Confused I looked back at the unit, and channel 2’s volume knob was above half way while the green channel’s was at about 10 o’clock.
Upon further investigation, in the green channel if I turned the volume knob down to 0 it still output plenty of volume. Turning up the knob it got noisier, but didn’t have a normal taper in the volume increase. By contrast the red channel works as normal, I can go down to whisper quiet volumes or no output and get as loud as I need in the opposite direction.
I tried disconnecting the footswitch and switching with the unit buttons itself, no change. Turned it off and back on again, no change. Ended up having to just stick to the red channel and forego my solo boost because it was so much louder and noisier in the green channel.
Any ideas? Anyone ever run into this? I’ve got a gig next week, and then a 2-day travel festival gig the following that. The PS100 is a pretty critical part of my rig, so I’m hoping it’s got a known easy fix or something. I am handy with amps if that helps.
I can also take a video of this behavior if that’s helpful.
Well even more bizarre, I tested it today now that I’m back home and it works normal… well sort of.
Both channels would go up and down volume the same amount, but neither would go to fully 0 output. Then I switched to bypass mode, and switched back and now it’ll go to 0.
Almost worse, I’d prefer a consistent issues so I can suss it out! Makes me a bit nervous for future gigs, but I guess there’s a chance cycling the bypass switch will get it to its happy place if I run into that again…
Anyone experience something similar before?
Most of the time issues like this are maintenance related and can vary depending on application and operating environment.
Here are a few things to check:

If using the FX loop, check the cables to and from effects. If not, put a jumper cable between the send and return in case you may have contact oxidation on the return jack.

Check the preamp tube. Is it fully seated in its socket? If you have a spare try replacing it.

Check power tubes. How long have you been using the PS-100 and how old is it?

Hi Dave, I guess I’m not really following how any of those would result in the symptoms I described.
FX Loop works with both channels, so it’s a constant meaning it wouldn’t be the cause of one channel having issues and the other not.. right?
Similarly, preamp tube operate for both channels, as do the power tubes.
Bumping this up. Just did another gig, same issue. Amp running wayyyyy louder than it should be with the volume setting on ch 1 and ch2 is way under powered for what it should be based on the setting. I cycled the bypass switch and turned it off and on and it seemed to get it working again for a bit but once I changed the channel again it went back to this weird behavior…
