PS-100 New Out Of The Box With Audio Problems

I purchased a PS-100 brand new and have been trying to work with it. Firstly let me point out that I am not a beginner, or new when it comes to attenuators. This would go for valve amplification as well. I build high end boutique guitar amplifiers.

Issue 1. Right away from day one right out of the box. The unit when turned on has always had a electronical surging noise that can last for 30 seconds to almost one minute or longer. This can also randomly come back, then disappear at any given time.

Issue 2. When the channel with the red light is selected. A randomly a motor boating sound will pass through the audio and remain on. ‘This is with any choice of amplifier’. What is also frustrating is that this can happen at any given time, even while recording!!! This unit has never left my studio. And I can’t even imagine how I would deal with this in a live environment with a band which was partly my attention of use with the PS-100.

I understand that the PS-100 I received could very well just simply have a compromised set of valves that came stock with the unit. (or at least I hope this is the only problem.) and could be a simple fix. And I love the PS-100. But what I paid for brand new as a customer and need is quality, performance and most of all stability. I am sure there is a reasonable explanation for what is going on electronically with the unit. And that it can be fixed. But I am gravely disappointed in how this unit has performed. Especially at it’s price point. The customer should never have to pay even more money out of their pocket for such problems and inconsistencies. Again love the unit, but disappointed.

I would appreciate it if somebody could please point me to who I can contact ‘directly’ at Fryette about addressing these problems. Thank You

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties, but I’m sure they can be ironed out quickly.

An intermittent problem with a power tube could cause the symptom you describe.

I’m guessing that you’re in the UK, so I assume you’ve contacted the dealer there, which would be Peach Guitars. If so, they have a warranty service outlet set up they can refer you to, or they could even arrange for a replacement if it was a very recent purchase.

If you purchased it from outside if the UK, you’ll need to contact that dealer.

You can also email the factory for direct assistance at support@fryette.com. Be sure to include your name, address, contact info, serial number and the date and place of purchase.

Thank you.

Dave
