I have the PS2 with a Zmac setup for my studio. I’d like to plug some preamp pedals and kemper gear into it while it’s hooked up to the Zmac. How do I go about that?
Just to be clear, in this scenario you describe, the only power amp you would have available would be in the PS-2?
Yes, that’s correct.
I should have asked what other preamp pedals you are planning on using because that will help me finish out the rig. As of right now, we’ll just look at running the Kemper with the ZMACS and the PS and a cab.
What we’ll do is plug your guitar into the input of your Kemper and then send the monitor out to the Power Station line-in. Then we take the Power Station speaker out into a ZMACS amp-in jack and then take a cab-out of the ZMACS into what ever cab you have.
The PS has impedance settings for the speaker out so take that into account when you are setting up your ZMACS. On the ZMACS you’ll set the amp impedance to whatever you have the PS set to and then you’ll set the cab impedance on the ZMACS to whatever your cab is set to.
Let me know what additional pedals you are planning to use and we can map out how that will work as well.
I was about to run into this setup like this. I have a few preamp pedals, VHT, total Worship, QuadCor.
Yeah, that’s the basic idea only instead of putting the PS in the attenuator jacks (as shown in the diagram), we’ll instead use it as the sole amp in the rig buy plugging the speaker-out jack of the PS into the amp-in jack of the ZMACS. Finally, we would connect the speaker-out jack of the ZMACS to whatever cab(s) you are choosing to use.
So if I’m using it like a head, then I assume I can’t use it as a load box for the other heads so it’s one or the other?
I think I misunderstood- I thought you didn’t have any other amplifiers in this rig. At any rate, you would want to decide on what job you were going to use the PS for because the way you are connecting it to the ZMACS will determine it’s usage in the rig. If you wanted to use it for it’s reactive load function, then you’d insert it into the attenuator loop. If you’re using it as a power amp to amplify your preamps then you’d use it in the way I had illustrated above.
As a stand alone unit, you can use the PS with an amp plugged into the amp-in and also a pre-amp into the line-in and then be able to switch between them- but you would need a Cyclops to do that.
