an update on the release date would be appreciated. I was told by a dealer that they were anticipating end of this month but I haven’t seen anything direct from Fryette.
The company hasn’t answered questions in this thread since February.
Yessir. I just put a pre-order in yesterday. Not necessarily in a rush, just excited to know any updates!
hey @dan is there an update on estimated shipping dates for the UL II?
Actually I’m not sure – I’m not based at the shop so not in the loop on everything.
is there a way to find out? it would be great to at least have an idea on when we could expect them
Hi @dan;
You mentioned that constructive criticism and feedback are welcome, so with all due respect, I’d like to share mine:
Please don’t announce shipping dates unless they are reasonably certain. Steve himself stated during NAMM that the first units of the Pittbull UL II would begin shipping at the end of March. Based on that information, I placed my pre-order on March 16th and paid the full amount upfront, including shipping.
Now, more than two months later, there is still no clear delivery date, only repeated delays and the distributor saying: “We’ll have it in a week or two.” That on going uncertainty is the real issue.
Many of us have invested thousands of dollars in a product we haven’t even had the chance to try, purely because of the trust and reputation Steve Fryette has earned over decades. Delays can happen and most of us understand that. What becomes difficult to accept is an indefinite wait without clear, concrete and professional communication.
For that reason, I am seriously considering requesting a full refund. I’ve been using Fryette products for nearly three decades, so I fully understand the realities of manufacturing and production delays… but patience also has its limits.
Finally, I want to reiterate that the VHT Pittbull UL I purchased in the ’90s is still with me today because it remains in my opinion, one of the best-sounding amplifiers ever made.
Yes, discussion is fine of course it’s entirely reasonable to ask! All I can do is flag this with the company. Which I will do.
Thanks for the quick reply @dan. I genuinely appreciate it.
It is admittedly a bit disappointing to realize there seems to be very little internal communication regarding Fryette’s current flagship release and its estimated shipping timeline.
In the meantime, my Fatbottom cabinet appears to be handling the uncertainty far better than I am, unfortunately it sounds huge, open, focused and absolutely glorious with just about every boutique head I plug into it.
If you do flag this with the company, please let them know the cabinet is patiently waiting for its Pittbull UL II companion.
Cheers
Any update? Were you able to get estimated shipping dates?
An update is in the works.
Any update on the update?
I just heard from Steve and Joe, expect an update very soon from them.
Very, very close… ![]()
Thanks for this very interesting and exciting video.
Given the format, I would have thought you’d have integrated a compact output transformer like the ones in the LX, but no, it’s a classic model, which I think is pretty cool.
Having an LX II and a 2/50/2, the headroom of the 2/50/2 is significantly greater. (Not that I’m criticizing the LX, as its strength lies in its very useful compact size; you can’t have everything).
It’s funny to see, though, that there’s no large power transformer; the weight savings will be enormous!
So, since it’s a switching power supply that will allow for a lot of flexibility, will the tube heating circuit be powered by AC or DC?
Is the fan on the right side of the power supply board an exhaust fan? (But if so, doesn’t it draw heat from the tubes passing through the power supply board?unless there is a closed dividing plate, but in the video everything is open.)
Sorry for this question, but ventilation is an important and not so simple aspect of compact systems.
In any case, I plan to buy one after the initial rush of orders.
That’s fantastic. What is the updated anticipated shipping date? That’s what a good amount of us want to know.
What is the wires going from the ULII top shelf to the amp on the shelf bellow it ???
Yes, all DC heaters. Like the GPDI/IR it’s a similar topology.
As for ventilation, I’m not sure of the overall scheme. But switching topologies are really efficient, so heat generation will be much less. Maybe @JoeGamble can confirm, I know he is visiting the shop this week ![]()
Not sure, maybe A/B testing/switching, who knows.
