Ohm switch settings

Hello everyone.

All my amp heads are at 8 Ohm, and I usually connect them with a 8 Ohm cab.
So… I have both switches (PS-2A ) at 8 Ohm.
I also have a 16 Ohm cab, sometimes I want to play with it (not together with the 8 Ohm cab ).
Is it safe to have the Amp impedance at 8 Ohm and the Speaker impedance at 16 Ohm?
Thank you for your time.

Hi @Manos21 welcome back to the forum!

Generally it’s best to impedance match, and certainly when running things at high power. But I think it’s OK to mismatch impedance by one step if you are not running things at too high a power.

Yes I understand, I always prefer matched impedance, I asked in case there was any “trick”.
Thank you.

Yes, this is fine and impedance matched! The Power station will internally match the impedance when in OPERATE:

  • Your amp: 8 Ohms
  • PS-2 AMP IN: 8 Ohms
  • PS-2 SPKR OUT: 16 Ohms
  • Cab: 16 Ohms

However, in BYPASS it will be like this:

  • Your amp: 8 Ohms
  • Can: 16 Ohms

This is where the mismatch will occur.

There is no way around that because in BYPASS the PowerStation is truely bypassed and the amp sees the speaker.

Perfect, that works great for me, I don’t need it in Bypass!
Thank you very much.
