Keeping Power Station in Operate Mode

Hi,

I use the PS-100 in a recording environment. I was thinking of keeping the PS-100 in my machine room because of the fan noise. If I move it there, I can turn the unit on remotely with a remote controlled power switch. Is it problematic to leave the unit in the machine room with the Operate switch set to Operate 24/7?

Thanks!

Hi Jacob, Having the PS-100 located in the machine room is ok but the tubes are receiving full operating voltage when the PS-100 is in operate mode regardless of whether or not you are sending any signal through it. So no, it would not be good to leave the PS-100 in operate mode all of the time as it would burn up the power tubes prematurely and could cause additional heat damage to some of the internal components. You would need to switch the PS-100 into Standby or turn the unit off completely during long periods of non-use in order to ensure the proper lifespan of the power tubes. Cheers! Gil.

Thanks for the quick reply, Gil!

I should clarify, I only plan on turning the PS-100 on when tracking guitar, so Iā€™d turn it off the second I was done with tracking.

So if I judiciously power on and off the device for tracking only, is it okay to leave the Operate switch set to Operate?

Yes, even for fairly long stretches of time. As long as it gets powered down when you are done with the session.
