I converted a Jet City 50 Combo into a Big Fatass Combo..
It came out alright. I changed some things because it didn’t come out exactly like the real deal, but good enough to wank on. I used the JCA iron and Chassis. I added the rest including a Fane F70..
The pics were taken a while ago, so some things have changed but you get the idea..
Well, I just did an internet search for that, thinking, “what a good sounding name for a combo”. I did not find anything related to guitar amps. Better delete that tab now…
This sounds awesome; it makes me want to play more. I am getting very bored with my JCM 800.
So what did you do to this amp?
I don’t know a lot about this stuff. But the voltages from the JCA PT are a lot higher than my D120.. I assume this is why initially it had way more gain and highend response.. Plus the OT is also different.
I tried lots of things to get it to sound right. I don’t have a Scope and don’t know how to use one, so I’m doing this all by ear.. Right now I’m dumping a lot of gain with a 100k resistor to ground after the Parallel Triode 1st stage. Then I have a 1n Cap in parallel with the 220p Cap on the Driver for the Cathodyne PI..
I just learned there’s a better way to tame highs by creating a Shelving EQ by adding a Resistor in Series with the Cap but I haven’t played with it yet..
